< English continued >

SG : What do you do?
I’m finishing up my bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science (HKU) and trying to burrow my way into making a name for myself in robotics.

SG : Are you living your dream?
I wouldn’t say I ever dreamed of doing what I’m doing now when I was young (I dreamed of being a panda when I was 7), but I’m enjoying how the stars have aligned to bring me here and I think I’d enjoy living the dream I’m working towards. Working with robots is pretty cool.

SG : What is the greatest sacrifice you have made to live your dream?
Mostly time, with both myself and my loved ones. Stemming from this to a certain degree is health because of the late nights and other stuff I do to try to have more time on my hands.

SG : What has been a high point so far?
Personal achievement-wise, I’d have to say submitting my first conference paper. General eye-opener wise, probably attending the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) and also the DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals earlier this year.

SG : One change you would make to your hometown for the better.
I’d say a reduction in pollution in Tianjin would be heavenly.

SG : Who would you like to work with right now?
There’s quite a few people… Allison Okamura at Stanford, Matt Mason/Siddhartha Srinivasa at Carnegie Mellon, Robert Howe at Harvard, Daniela Rus at MIT, etc.

SG : Favorite Chinese hero?
Hua Mulan, or at least the story of Hua Mulan…

SG : A modern Chinese role model you admire.
Most recently, Tu Youyou.
