From the 10th Ep. of 'Tha Shoulder' series, Left Lane Didon and producer JLVSN, continue to cook the heat. It's a 3 song project not to be skipped, but we wanna praise the standout track, "Cece Peniston". This soulful groove of a track featuring Jay NiCE as NiCE Supreme, sees him do the honors of cuttin' the cake only for Lefty to slice and dice the pie every which way with his swordplay.
First, this beat is like overcast weather, moody as F. Producer JLVSN, cleverly lets the instrumental sit muted in the cut with the exception of the vocal sample using Phyllis Hyman's piercing voice to float above it (sampled from the Pharoah Sanders featuring Phyllis Hyman track, 'As You Are'). The overall effect is a smooth ride on performance tires for the homies to get busy.
We running out of superlatives to describe Didon, but this verse is an exceptional chapter to his oeuvre of work. He coulda spit his first 4 bars and I woulda been satisfied, but dawg comes with a beast of a verse! It's a vibrant visual picture that starts in the deep end. Homeboy is on the receptor superhighway takin' no pit stops. This be like looking out the whip and seeing the illest scenery roll past. NiCE Supreme and JLVSN ridin' shotgun on this one!
